Apparently my car was consuming oil even though the light was not on. The engine froze on me and will not start over. Toyota doesn't care due it it not being "qualified" for the "oil consumption" recall. Apparently, "enough" people need to complain about my specific year (2005) scion tc.

I think it is BULLL$h!t that they don't care about the 05 tc! probably because noone these days in America is as frugal as me.

2007-2009 Scion tC; but hey, if they 07's were having issues...MAYBE the 06 and 05's were too? It ain't rocket science - and it's dumb that you have to convince a company to care about their mistake.

OK, this is a 05 Scion tC. as with most cars, problems do arise, but this is just too far out there. After doing tons of research I found that basically between the years of 2000 and 2006 first half. That Toyota's 2.4L engine had a design flaw that usually starting at about 40k miles the head gaskets started blowing, then when the mechanics got into it, they found that the head bolts actually stripped out of the engine block. The fix was to replace the whole engine in the car.Or the block and just have them rebuild your engine with the old parts.They quoted me $1700 - $3000 for the repair or I could just buy a new engine for $6000. I chose to tear the car down and do it myself.

I had to drill and tap the engine block install steel inserts into the new bolt holes and replace all gaskets on the car along with new belts, pulleys and water pump. With parts and tools It cost me about $750. I have about 60 - 70 hours labor into it also. This car has never been raced or abused, that's probably why it waited until 125K before it cut loose and died.

Other than that it's just like all other cars now days, it was made crappy. Cheap plastic that falls off, like the rear hatch window trim or the trunk latch bezel that busts off in your hand. The front and rear bumper covers falling off because they decided to use cheap plastic pins to hold these cars together instead of using nuts and bolts. I guess that's why they only give a 25K mile warranty with the new tC they're selling.
