Scion / Toyota has issued a Service Bulletin S-SB-0012-14 that essentially says its excluded from the 3-36 B to B warranty. Clogging of this hose contaminated the evaporator, damaged the blower motor and saturated the interior carpet. The drain is located under the car and is not end-user or customer serviceable. The service bulletin shows a redesigned part with an insecticide tip (ARINIX) as the solution, but not covered under warranty. Car is driven in the New York area and has never been driven though a Louisanna swap or anything like one.
Apparently "bug" are an environmental issue to which they've created a solution, but also an exclusion under their warranty. Six days of phone calls to Toyota / Scion Customer Care (that's an oxymoron) results in a circle jerk back to the dealer who is just reading the book and whose "Customer Care Representative" (Grace Castillo) can't be bothered returning phone calls for over SIX business days. Toyota / Scion Customer Care (800-331-4331) can't escalate to a decision maker or warranty expert.
Time to start parking in front of dealers with signs saying their "warranty" isn't worth the paper its printed on, twitter rants and perhaps the blogosphere. Maybe #thetonight show, #jimmyfallon can get #toyotadon'tcare to trend. Ponderous!!
