The contact owns a 2004 Scion Xb. While the contact attempted to open the rear hatch, the garnish latching attachment fractured and created sharp plastic edges. After the failure, the rear hatch door could not be opened from inside or outside the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 178,850.
