I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS A RECALL BECAUSE LOOKING ON THE INTERNET I SEE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH THE SCION XB'S, BUT MOST PEOPLE ONLY HAD LIKE 40K MILES SO STILL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I DO NOT HAVE $1000 TO FIX THIS AT THIS MOMENT. i AM UNEMPLOYED AND HAVE INTERVIEWS LINED UP ALL WEEK AND NOW NO WAY TO GET THERE!!!! FML

I bought a 2008 Scion xB because my boyfriend had a newer model and I thought was super cute. Not even into second year of having it, the power steering module went out. I'm being told it's going to be $1200.00 to replace. After researching, I'm finding this is a common defect in this year and model.
I called the Toyota dealership because I financed this car, and they said that was not their problem. Was just wear and tear for the age of the car. Seriously doubt I will ever buy another one of these cars again after I get rid of this one.

Was driving my 2008 Scion XB I lost the power steering, a red light went on in the dash, looks like a steering wheel. I found the part on line. Wait to replace it, this could be a safety hazard for Toyota customers again. The NHTSA should look into this before someone gets injured or worse.

We purchased our first Toyota in 1979. A Corolla. We were very satisfied with this car and since then we have purchased the following: Corolla 1987; Corolla 1994; Four cylinder pick-up 1996; Tacoma Pick-up 2005; Scion XB 2006; and the present Scion XB 2008. Our Corollas and Scions have been serviced according to dealer recommendations.
On May 18th we were very shocked to have the steering problem with our 2008 XB. We purchased this vehicle confident that we would not experience any problems, as we are now elderly and on fixed income. Our previous vehicles have gone well over the 200,000 miles. But, this XB was only at 42,000. The replacement part and labor were $713.33.
This really knocked our budget off for May AND June.
We have been loyal, always recommending your vehicles and service, and needless to say we are very disappointed. We feel that Toyota let us down.

While driving, the car suddenly became extremely stiff in steering. It was almost impossible to steer. There was no Power Steering warning light. Stopped the car for a while and tried again. This time it ran fine, but only for 5 minutes. Then the steering became heavy again. All this time there was no Power Steering warning light on.
