Excessive oil consumption. My car stalled out in April 2023, added oil and it started back up. Since then I have to add a quart of oil a week in my car.

The Scion xB is a good car but this last year I noticed I was adding oil between oil changes. After engine break in I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic oil. I used this oil for several of my vehicles and have achieved over 250 thousand miles with no significant oil usage. Looking up the issue on line I noticed recalls by Toyota on the 2.4 engine and my model was included. They only went up to the 2009 model year. It seems they still have the same problem with the rings and pistons on this engine. According to Toyota adding a quart of oil every 1000 to 1200 miles is normal. It's obvious that Toyota doesn't want to solve the problem. I've had Hondas with over 200,000 miles that didn't consume that much oil. I change oil and filter every 5000 miles.

We started to notice several months ago that we had to put oil in the car between oil changes. I have contacted the dealer to find out what can be done. Awaiting their reply.

I have noticed that when I go to change the oil that we put much more in then comes out. My mechanic used a camera and checked out one of the cylinders and found it to be covered in burnt oil residue. I am still searching for the source of the leak into the cylinders at this time. I am aware it could be the piston rings or it could be the PCV system.

I bought this car used at 89,000 miles about 6 months ago from a reputable Toyota dealer. I LOVE my toaster. I researched the car before I bought it but the only problem I saw was about the seats being hard to adjust. Whatever. I am religious about getting my oil changed every 5k miles/3 months. I usually hit 5k every 3 months. I noticed about a month and a half ago it idled a bit rough shortly before an oil change. I was at 96,000 miles so I replaced my spark plugs which is routine 100k maintenance and while I was there got my oil changed. A week ago I start smelling oil. And since I did a ton of running around due to the holiday I've put 4,000 miles on my car a bit prematurely. Then I braked hard yesterday and my oil light flickered. Having blown 2 motors in a POS Pontiac Grand Am that just wanted me to let it die. I called my service writer friend at Goodyear. He said to check oil level NOW. 2 QUARTS LOW. So I called the dealer I bought my car from and they are being SUPER helpful and friendly. They told me I'd get a free oil change next Saturday courtesy of Toyota and they'd do an oil consumption test to see if my vehicle qualifies for the repair. I love my toaster. And after dealing with standard issues from my Grand Am and my Jeep Cherokee that GM and Chrysler pretty much said "You're problem. Not our fault you and every other owner has this problem" I am pleased with the response from Toyota.

Reported this problem to Toyota at 200,000 miles. They gave us a # to wait for repairs. However, our number has not come up. We finally took back to dealer and parked car at 250,000..Engine had locked up on the interstate/ (The Toyota dealer told us to go ahead and drive car. It was good to go.) Drove it onto Toyota lot, and they said they couldn't do anything until they got a part for the car. Then, (it is now June 27, 2016 ) they tell us that they have to replace the block. There was nothing wrong with the block when we parked it at the Toyota dealer. We are still paying for this vehicle. To ensure that our credit is not ruined. However, we will never buy another Toyota at this dealer again. The person who sold us 6 cars in 2 years said, "it is not my problem. Do you want to buy another car?" U can imagine the answer to that question. The car was still under warranty when we parked it at the dealer. However, we believe they are stalling on fixing this so the warranty goes out. They refused to give us a "lender" car until they could fix the one we parked on their lot. They told us we could drive my wife's car. (She also has a 2012 Scion). Of course she refuses to let me use hers. She needs it. That is why she bought her own. Has anyone out there had similar or the same problems with Toyota fixing rapid oil usage on the 2012 Scion XB?
