I am a 2022 BRZ owner and know nothing about auto mechanics. The reason I want to buy this car is because I saw the ads on social media and it is really attractive. I bought with 31 miles BRZ on the March 3, 2022 in Pembroke Pines, FL. The nightmare was happened on July 11, 2022, the car losing power when I was driving on highway. Once I switch to park mode, all the light were on on the dashboard.
Then I brought back to the dealership and they said I need to pay $16,000 for the repair because of the outside interference with the oil change, and the result from the technician said “FOUND CYLINDER #4 WAS THE CAUSE OF ENGINE FAILURE. FOUND PISTON ROD, CRANK BEARING, AND PISTON CAP DESTROYED WITHIN THE CREVICES OF ENGINE AND OIL PAN. FOUND CAUSE OF ENGINE FAILURE WAS LACK OF OIL/OIL STARVATION DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE 4TH PISTON ROD IS THE LAST PISTON ROD TO RECEIVE OIL FOUND CRANKSHAFT AREA WHERE MAIN BEARINGS GO FOR PISTON #4 TO BE FILLED OFF WHICH IS ANOTHER INDICATION OF OIL STARVATION.†which is not true.
Then I hire an attorney and send them a letter, which clearly stated that the repair cost need to be under warranty. Then they agree to fix it with no cost. I have been waiting for 5 months for them to repair. I picked up my car on 12/13/2022. On 1/26/2023, When I needed to use the car, I found that the whole car was full of strong gas smell, and the dashboard was all light up again. The maintenance department replied that the initial diagnosis was a gasoline system failure, and further disassembly was required to find out the real reason. I waited for them on the 15th day. reply is “The technician found two injector o-rings that were defective, It's a part failure. That can happen over time causing fuel to leak and flood the cylinder chamber, which in turn caused the vehicle to stall.â€
Provided by the manager of the Pembroke pins maintenance department, I can quote Florida lemon law, because the first problem occurred and the new engine needs to be replaced for five months, I asked Subaru America to apply lemon law on the car, I got the reply from Subaru of America that I was unqualified. The reason is that the first engine replacement was not in WARRANTY. It was a gesture of goodwill of repairing. I did not know and didn’t not accept the goodwill. And the reason of they did it in the gesture of goodwill is there’s a concern that they believe the lack of oil is because of the outside interference with the oil change.
Here the problem comes in, after I asked many times about what is the outside influences, they said they wouldn’t be able to provide further details of the concern / outside influences. They provide some examples which is I didn’t do maintenance on time or check the oil level regularly, etc. I told them that it was not true at all. I just bought the car for 4 months and I do not need any maintenance at that time and also there is nothing on the dashboard showing there is any problem for the car. The oil suddenly loses power and burns the engine. Is this the responsibility of the user? Furthermore, I need them to provide evidence of what is the outside influences and make it not under warranty. As long as they have evidence, I will accept the repair fee of $16,000, but they insist that the internal information cannot be disclosed, and it is because they cannot provide it that I will lose the warranty and lose request lemony car rights, I hope everyone can provide opinions!
