problem #1

Feb 072017

Forester L 2.5L

  • Manual transmission
  • 120,000 miles

Vehicle started to develop a grinding sound in the engine bay. Took it to the mechanic just in time as one of the cam gears was about to disintegrate and come apart which would have destroyed the engine since most Subaru engines are interference type engines and if the timing belt breaks or moves it causes the pistons to collide with the valves. Cam gear, pulleys and timing belt were replaced which fixed the problem for a very short period of time until the engine basically destroyed itself when the timing belt moved and per the above, the pistons collided with the valves. As this happened later this will be detailed in a separate complaint.
