rear window wiper arm broke off

Turned on the rear wiper one day & didn't realize the wiper had frozen to the window, & the force of the motor cracked the wiper arm at the base, where the metal shaft through the rear window is bolted on. The wiper arm base cracked in half right under where the nut tightens. Yep, it's plastic. Why don't they keep parts that come under regular stress made of metal?!! It's a safety issue.
