Brand new! The engine rod bearing knocked on the crankcase journals, until the oil pressure came up to pressure. This is sure to damage the engine and cut short it's useful life.

Forester 2.5L

This is our third Forester and by far the worst. From new we have complained to the dealer of very rough, noisy starting from cold. I believe that this engine has excessive bearing clearance causing the engine to rattle when cold. I have listened to other cars cold start on the lot and they are much better than ours. Mechanic and Subaru rep say that "this is normal for the PZEV engine." We now have 7500 miles on it and the problem has worsened with time. I urge all prospective owners to listen to the car start FROM COLD.
