Opened my trunk the other night and "BANG". The trunk opened half way then the right side lift strut fractured where it connects to the truck itself. The trunk then fell with all its weight on the broken strut that had fallen over the right rear tail light. Luckily it didn't smash the light!
I was unable to close the trunk without removing the strut itself. I used a socket (can also use a phillips screw driver). Now I can't open the trunk without using my body to help prop it open as I try to put things in or out.
I use my cargo area frequently and this has been really annoying, even if it's just been a few days. Going to price out the parts ASAP and repair myself, I believe it should be pretty straightforward. There is no reason this part should have failed this early in its life. Poor materials yet again.

If any weight is on the trunk (water, snow) the door will not stay open - unfortunately I found out the hard way when it cracked me across the head and back.
