problem #2

Forester Limited 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 22,000 miles

When I come to a stop, such as at a red light, with the transmission in D and HVAC system off, the idle speed will initially rest at about 700+ rpm, then gradually drop to about 600 rpm as long as I am pressing on the brake pedal. At 600 rpm there is a very noticeable vibration. If I set the parking brake and take my foot off the brake pedal, the idle speed will increase back up to 700+ rpms and become much smoother. If I have the HVAC system turned on, the lower end of idle speed will increase to about 680 rpm with my foot on the brake pedal and will feel a little smoother, but still with a little vibration. My searches have come up with a TSB issued by Subaru about a replacement alternator and tensioner pulley that are supposed to fix the problem of rough idle, but that is going to be an expensive fix. Really an irritating problem.

Forester Premium 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 70,000 miles

Subaru extended my CVT warranty to 100k miles, but did not issue a recall. This is disappointing, because the issue was not revealed until I had 70,000 miles and the issue is progressive. When I stop at a red light, rpm drop to 500 and car shakes and vibrates for a second, then the rpm go back up to 690. I brought the car to the dealership, it's been with the dealer 2 days and I still do not know if this will be fixed and how long it will take.
