On 11/20/15 with fewer than 4,000 miles on my one month old new car, I pulled into the dealership in Sioux City because the wiper blades were not defrosting as expected in the first snow storm of the season. There was no windshield crack present at that time. Within 1/2 hr after leaving the Dealership-a crack appeared in the left side of the front windshield and within 30 mins after that--the crack expanded to over 2.5 feet long, across the entire lower windshield.
Of course, I returned to the dealership and showed them the crack and although I was sure it was caused by the frozen ice on the wiper blades scraping harshly across the windshield, the dealer discovered a very tiny, superficial, almost microscopic pebble nick that occurred along the heated strip which he insisted caused the windshield to crack and spread very quickly.
This makes no sense--especially in a new un-weathered windshield. It is difficult to imagine that this is normal for any windshield. Why would any windshield crack so easily? I do strongly believe this windshield to have been defective.
