Just before the 30,000mi service the Forester amber engine low oil level warning light came on. I showed the dealership service advisor, all services performed there, original owner. At 34,500mi, I checked the oil level between road trips and it was on the low level line. I added 3/4 quart to bring it a hair below top level mark. At 36,000mi I had oil changed at dealership and told the service advisor about having to add oil. They want to wait until next oil change (42,000mi) to start a documented oil measurement, every 1,200mi.
Since "Subaru considers a quart burned every 1,000 to 1,200 miles to be acceptable." this exercise is a waste of time and resources. It is not a question of is my Forester using oil, it is and a new vehicle should not have this problem. My 2015 Impreza does not use a drop of oil at 66,000mi. Neither does my 2004 Honda Accord at 186,000mi. Original owner of both.

New 2017 forester burns more oil than the car I had in high school. I need to add a Quart of of oil every 4,000 miles on a brand new engine. Subaru lost a lawsuit about oil consumption on the 2011-2014 foresters, and they have not fixed the problem.

I never had a new car that consumed oil at 1 qt per 1200 miles.
