These cars use a stamped steel lower control arm that was recalled by Subaru of America earlier in the car's life, for all cars in the Salt Belt. Not sure if the previous owner neglected to have the recall fixed or if the replacements were just as bad. the control arm rusted through and snapped while driving, forcing the car off the road and into a ditch. Thankfully no other cars were in the area or the wreck could have been worse. Expect to be towed to a shop if this happens to you, I also recommend swapping out the factory units with the same part from the WRX STI mode, which are cast aluminum. Stronger and will not rust out, wouldn't it have been swell for Subaru to equip these on all trims from the factory?
