This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Subaru dealer.
My Impreza had the a/c compressor clutch fail and had it not been under warranty, it would have cost $1000 to have it fixed. Subaru backs their product very well, I wonder if the clutch will fail again soon

Hey Subaru,
I love your cars, I've had the pleasure of driving six different Subaru models. Two of them were my own to drive, and four of my father's I drove regularly. My brother is also a Subaru guy w/two under his belt, all started by the '97 Impreza I leased and impressed the rest of the family.
That being said, there is a pattern of the same orsimilar problems I've encountered in almost every model and year, my family or I or have driven or owned. However the following is a first.
With just under 30,000 miles on it, just after the warranty expired!, the A/C Compressor bearings started failing. I took the car in to be diagnosed for squeaking noises and the excessive drain on the engine when the A/C was engaged, compaired to previous performance.
This ended up costing me $1,079.97 on top of routine maintenance. I can barely afford this. I felt like I was punched in the gut by Subaru when I was told what it would cost me, and this early in the car's life!
It didn't take long for the mechanics to figure out the bearings in the A/C compressor were going to seize sooner than later. I found out from these mechanics and online this is a common issue for this year and model Subaru. I also found out the compressor bearings were known to be flawed and nothing was done about it.
This in and of itself is a infamous Subaru trait that known common flaws are let to become failures and the Subaru dealer always denying there is any sort of problem or pattern.
My family and I have looked the other way about this since we are very found of Subarus, however this pattern of the same old issues being denied and dismissed has grown old and is causing us to lose faith and love for Subaru and for us to consider shopping elsewhere when it comes to a new car!
Sincerely Losing my love for Subaru, Brett S./Mary S.
