problem #3

Apr 011920

Outback Limited 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 182,000 miles

The problem is not the transmission but the front differential. I have changed four differential since I bought the car--one rear and three front. I am on my third front differential. It's a good car! Subaru needs to build the front differential separate from the transmission. The transmission functions well, but when the front differential goes bad, it's very expensive to change everything. Why change your transmission when it is working fine, just because the differential went bad. Subaru needs to correct this problem, it's very expensive for the customer.

Please inform the manufacture about this annoying problem. It is very hard to find mechanics who are willing to fix it--they will not touch it. Therefore, you have to take it to the dealer for a rebuilt trans or a new one from Subaru. If you picked up a used one, there is no certainty that it will work--a bigger risk.

Outback Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 76,000 miles

Just wish I would have done research on this year, make and model, so many people out there complaing about replacing the transmission and subaru never did anything about it. A car with only 76,000 miles on it should not have the major problems I have been having with this vehicle.

Outback 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,000 miles

I was shocked that the transmission went out with so few miles. I have owned Subaru's before and never had a transmission issue.
