Outback Weatherguard 2.5L

Strong fuel smell in cold weather and at startup!! Fuel smell is very strong in cabin if the heater is turned on!! Concern is a fire hazard, not to mention a health issue with the odor inside the cabin??

Outback 4

while warming up my car for about 5 to 7 min, the inside of the car fills up with gas fumes. this doesnt happen every time, about half the time, but i think it would be dangerous. in winter you have static electricity when you go inside, and i am not sure if it would explode with the gas smell. i have a 6 month old and a 3 yr old g-kids and i really dont want them in a car full of gas fumes. i did bring this up to the dealer last winter and he said they heard of this but nothing is being done i guess. so what should i do? i do have an extended warranty out on this car

Outback LE 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 105,000 miles

Noticed problem when moved from FL to SC upstate where temp gets below 40 degrees in winter. Get strong gas fumes in cabin (only when stopped) Suspect intake manifold gasket may shrink in cold and leak fuel vapor. May be fire / health hazard!
