I know that alternators go bad, but just another item that has gone wrong with this Subaru Outback over the last few years.

problem #1

Outback Limited 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

I was on a 200 mile trip in Pa. during a snow storm. Check engine, ABS, cruise and other dash lights came on. And error code 55 on dash. Car continued to function, but I stopped at the nearest gas station and checked all the fluids. They were all good. Used my smart phone to go on line to check problem and discovered ice builds up on ABS sensors and does something to the computer... On two occassions my temp gauge maxed out to HOT. Stopped to check it and everything appeared to be ok. It appears it has a computer problem...I'm in the proccess of trading it in for another brand of auto. Don't want to deal with this.
