This is a very common problem with Subaru's. Can't believe Subaru hasn't been able to fix this in 10 years? I have had several other problems with this car. Absolutely the worst car I have ever owned!

Engine began to leak oil at fairly significant rate. Had to be topped off often. Oil would regularly appear below the dipstick. Unfortunately it is quite an expensive repair, some may not think it worth it at such a high mileage. Very reliable vehicle otherwise.

Well, our service shop has already done several 2.5 head gaskets. The previous one they did was at 45K miles.
This car has been worse than my old Chevy S-10.
I didn't think that was possible.

I found out today that my subaru has both leaking head gaskets. Being the ONLY owner of this vehicle and keeping meticulous maintenance and up keep according to the factory manufacters guidlines, I have to fix both head gaskets at only 77K miles? This is outragous; I could not have avoided this repair AT ALL. This should defnitely be a recall given the amount of complaints on the web about this issue.
I did today also call Subaru of America and voiced my concern. The lady, Elizabeth, was wonderful to speak to and told me that "...they are very sympathetic to the head gasket issue." I am waiting to hear back from Subaru of America along with my trusted mechanic to ensure if there is actually a default present. I will post in a few days what the result was, but I just had to add a complaint so Subaru and others like myself will be able to see for themselves.

I bought my Outback in dec. 2007 and it drove great. In the beginning of 2011, the Subaru dealer discovered that on both sides the headgasket was leaking. Yes, you read this correct, both sides. My car was just out of warranty and an attempt to get some goodwill from Subaru was not honored. I looked into this head gasket problem and found lots of other Subaru drivers who had the same problem.
This shows me that this is a design/engineering problem and Subaru should sent out a recall to have this defect fixed. I am very upset that a product (just out of warranty) is not working properly. I am also very disappointed that Subaru treats their clients like this.
This will be my last Subaru and I will tell anybody who want to know Subaru's "quality and service"....bad
