I am the proud owner of a 2008 Subaru LL Bean Outback. I have had a problem with lug nuts coming loose, breaking and falling off the right front wheel three times in the last three years. The first time this happened the steering felt bad and I though I had a flat. What I discovered was that I only had two lug nuts left on a front wheel and the the loose wheel was shearing the wheel bolts off. I tightened the two nuts left and limped into Panquich Ut where they repaired the hub and replaced the nuts. About a year later I had a similar problem on the same wheel that I caught earlier (I had lost only two nuts), limped home and took it to the dealer. They assured me the problem was that when I bought new tires the mechanic had not tightened the lug nuts tight enough. Recently I needed brake repair and when I picked up the car I was told the there was a lug nut missing on the front wheel. I no longer believe this is an anomaly and want to warn others Subaru owners of this potentially dangerous situation.
