Outback

  • CVT transmission
  • 130,000 miles

2 rear hub bearings replaced at 112,600 miles June 4, 2018 costing $1251. 8 months/14,900 miles later, the right rear hub bearing needed replacement but covered under 1 yr warranty. Jan 15, 2020/30,000 miles since replacement the left rear hub is failing and making humming noise. Will not be covered and replacement cost estimated at $500. Called Subaru Corporate and they will not stand by their product. Both replacement hub bearings were Subaru parts and both failed under 30,000 miles. Subaru blamed mechanic since I did not have the work done at their shop. Subaru cars are built like junk.

Outback 2.5i

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,000 miles

Never heard of a vehicle or owned a vehicle with left and front wheel bearing failure at 35,000 miles. Repair of both bearings covered by standard power train warranty. Obviously defective components provided to Subaru. Key concern now is sourcing and failure of replacement wheel bearings and their potential failure after standard powertrain warranty runs out.

Providing this information to evaluate prior to buying a Subaru as there appears to be significant quality fade without going into all of the other issues with Subaru manufacturing.
