Outback 2.5i Premium

  • CVT transmission
  • 1,500 miles

Shortly after purchasing the car the rear hatch failed to close and I had to force it down manually. I contacted the dealer, by which time it was working normally, and they said they could do nothing if it was working, to bring it in when it wasn't working. It has continued to fail periodically, to either open or close when using the rear button, the dash button or the fob button, but never when the dealer is open. It usually works OK again after I stop the car (turn it off) and then restart the car later. Now it is out of warranty so the dealer is off the hook should it ever fail when they are open.

My dad bought a '16 Outback and experiences the same problem and the same brush-off by the Subaru dealer in his state.

Outback 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,534 miles

The tailgate would will not close or open intermittently since the first day I bought the car. Subaru now refuse to fix the issue under warranty. I think this is more of a personality issue, or lack of personality issue. ! stubborn manager who cant see the facts for his own opinion. The tailgate needs to be replaced and hopefully this will fix the issue. It looks as if the tailgate hinge welds did not fully occur in the factory so it has twisted the tailgate.

Outback Limited 3.3L V6

Inside button does not lift back door. Intermittently, the lift gate will not open when depressing outside button on lift gate or the remote. If any doors are open you cannot open lift gate, even using the remote or outside button.

Outback Limited 6 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,000 miles

The tailgate won't open using the button inside the car or the keyfob or the outside button on the tailgate. This happens intermittently. I took it to the dealer and they gave me a "how to operate all those buttons" session which was really annoying because I gave them information they didn't have. They of course couldn't make it happen so they just logged the problem. It has happened 4 or 5 times since the first time.

Outback Limited 3.6L

  • CVT transmission
  • 1,500 miles

Power lift gate opens partially and then closes. There are no objects stopping the lift gate from opening fully. One must put everything in your hands down and start the opening process. When the lift gate stops opening, grab it and use excessive force to open it fully. Sometime it will close (in power mode) on your shoulder - but I always win!

A. Electrical issues with 2015 outback with Eye sight:

The tailgate frequently won't open. It may take 15 minutes before the tailgate opens up. Doesn't matter whether the engine is on in park or off. Pressing button inside the car doesn't work. Pressing the button on the tailgate doesn't work. Pressing the tailgate button with the key fob doesn't work. Restarting the car doesn't solve the issue. Eventually it will open.

Radio comes on at will. When this happens it is impossible to turn it off so I turn down the volume. Pressing the on/off button doesn't make the radio turn off.

I am very unhappy with the actions taken by 2 separate Subaru dealers to resolve these issues.

The outback is a very drafty car. Everyone who rides in the front of the vehicle notices this.

I am ready to purchase another Toyota because they make much higher quality & more comfortable vehicles.
