This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Subaru dealer.
Dealer found the axle nut torque to out of spec. They removed the nut and installed a new nut and torqued to proper spec. Seems a bit crazy for a new car with less than 2000 miles.
Then, less than 3000 miles on the Subaru, back to dealer again to have an axle nut replaced and torqued to proper spec. This time on the passenger side. Sounded like hitting two steel bars together every time I put transmission into forward or reverse. Noise would go away after driving a few miles and thing heated up and metal parts swelled.
