Outback 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,594 miles

While making a left turn and accelerating, I thought the engine shut off. I kept hitting the gas pedal repeatedly and after 5-7 seconds, there was a surge in power causing me to almost lose control of the vehicle. I had angry drivers beeping their horns at me.

After stating my complaint to the dealer, the salesman drove the vehicle with me in it and found no hesitation or surge. Approximately 2 weeks later, this same hesitation and surge happened again at a 4 way stop sign. My passenger's head slammed back into the headrest but she was not injured. The service manager drove my car for over a week and again the problem would not repeat itself. After complaining again to the sales manager, I insisted they take the car back and refund my money. They suggested I drive it a third time and I flatly refused because I was afraid it would happen again. This was a huge safety issue! It appeared that they had never heard of this problem before.

After much aggravation, they finally worked a deal with me for a new Honda CR-V and applied most of what I paid for the Subaru to this purchase.

Outback Limited 3.6L

  • CVT transmission
  • 30,250 miles

In heavy traffic did a left u turn and hit the gas. The car went until the point I hit the gas to the floor, then it sat there for a few seconds as I hit the gas repeatedly then finally went, but I almost got rear ended from another car before it finally accelerated. Took it to the dealer they say they have not found anything wrong yet. Subaru of America says they won't do anything unless its replicated. This is a serious safety concern and needs to be addressed by Subaru. I've had several other issues and will address them separately.

Outback Limited 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 10,641 miles

While crossing two lanes of traffic, when there was an opening in the traffic flow, depressing on the accelerator and had no engine response. I did not have my foot on the brake, and there was no change in the normal 8500 rpm. Only when I mashed the accelerator to the floor, did the car take off. It was a close call. On 3/13/2017 I showed up to the dealer (This was the fourth time for this problem, twice for my wife, and twice for me). They said that they could not duplicate this problem, there was nothing that they could do, and considered it was an operator error. I also emailed Subaru corporate of this problem, but they never contacted me. Although this is a very intermittent problem, when it does it, you could end up in front of oncoming traffic and having your children collecting on your life insurance policy.
