This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Subaru dealer.
Bought this 2016 Outback 2 years ago. Subaru reputation for durability was prime motivator to buy. Drive vehicle only on paved roads (couple in our 70s). With only 42K miles very disappointed to see that a rear hub (wheel bearings) needs to be replaced. -- I have an 02 F150 with 160K with no wheel hub problems. Are we saying that Subaru is trying to save a couple of bucks to have some cheap bearings in the wheel hubs?
I strongly believe a recall on these hubs needs to be made. IfSubaru wants to keep their customers they better provide better quality on a key part such as a hub.
Reminds me of the war lost because of a nail. The horse being rode to deliver a war winning message lost the shoe and became lame because of the want of a nail. This Outback is now "lame" because of a hub weaout at 42K miles. And, I read on the internet that hub problems on these outbacks are not uncommon.
In fact, the dealer when asked today if he has seen this problem before, and he said he sees this problem often.

Loud Roar in the rear end of vehicle. Took it to Subaru of Gwinnett in GA & dropped off. Service advisor called at end of day 1 and stated the the technician said it was just tire noise. Tires (OEM Bridgestone) have 5-6/32 left. I said “no sir, the noise started abruptlyâ€. He said he would get someone else to get a 2nd opinion. Day 2, called 5 times, left 5 messages. No one would return our calls. Then last night, service advisor texted my wife at 3am that the car was ready and that the right rear hub bearing unit was bad & had been replaced. Picked up at 10 this morning. Normal noises.
Really bad way of doing business, dealership should be ashamed. I will be writing a letter to Subaru America.
2nd, a freaking wheel bearing should not be going out at this mileage, or any mileage. Wife’s vehicle, never been off road, or in salty road climates.
Oh, I have to put a battery charger on it once a month so she doesn’t have a dead battery. Known issue for the Outback. 1st & last Subaru for us, bought on reputation.
