Outback Limited 2.5i

We are leasing a "TOP OF THE LINE" Subaru Outback Limited 2.5i with the intention of purchasing the car at the end of the lease. We have run into some issues. The local dealership has been very cooperative and is trying to resolve the issue that is keeping us from enjoying our new car.

We purchased the lease in February 2018 and had issue with the radio screen going gray within the first few weeks. The Subaru dealership did what they called a "static reset" (unhooked the battery) and discharged the system. They informed me that a software update would be out by the middle of May and to bring the car back for the update. I did.

We had minor issues with the radio such as the programed stations would disappear, but have not had that issue since the update . We have taken the car in for required serve/oil changes and have voluntarily complied to do everything we can to meet all the requirements ask of us as Subaru customers.

On August 16, 2018 when we started the car, the radio was dead (black screen) with white lights blinking on both sides of the radio twice a minute . We drove the car a short distance. Upon restarting the car, the radio was still dead, but the electronic parking brake was engaged and we could shift into drive and reverse, but the car would not move. The parking light would not disengage and we could not drive the car. Activating and deactivating the parking brake in neutral, park, drive and reverse did not extinguished the parking brake indicator. The car would not move. After restarting a number of times, shifting gears a number of times and activating and deactivating the parking brake a number of times the parking light did go out.

I drove the car directly to the Subaru dealership and talked to the service manager. I was informed that the parking brake issue is directly related to the radio failure and needs to be replaced (it is a known issue). My car has remained at the dealership for (10) ten days with no date of resolution. I leased the Outback because it fits my transportation needs and it was a good choice to determine if that is what we would like to purchase in the future. We are concerned.
