WRX Limited 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 33,000 miles

So I bought my 2015 WRX in a February used from a dealership. Once the weather got warmer I noticed the a/c would come on and off while idling and cruising. It would start out working great but when I get above 3k rpm the a/c cuts out and starts blowing hot air until the car is above 4.5k rpm. It depends on the speed I'm going. I can't cruise anywhere in the 70s mph area cuz the air conditioner won't work. So in that case if I'm doing the speed limit and driving in hot weather the a/c is blowing hot air. I've also noticed the thermostat jumping a little when the a/c would do this. The engine seemed to get hotter. I'm beyond pissed. All this drama is happening cuz now there are 4 lawsuits for issues on my car. I hope I can get this fixed soon cuz I love this car and don't have tons of money to pump into something that's just going to fail. I'd love to get a fix for this by Subaru but my warranty is up and I'm kinds screwed I guess if anything happens.

Update from Feb 12, 2019: still having the problem but also with the heater on.. also there is a rattling and grinding coming from the rear of the car when it's cold and being driven after sitting a couple hours.. also the clutch is getting harder and harder to engage.. took it to subaru and they said I have obviously have an aftermarket clutch. which I don't. so now going to buy an aftermarket clutch since this looks like a huge problem in the wrx. don't buy this car unless you plan on replacing everything.

WRX Premium 2.0L

Had service check twice and both times found no leak. As car idles, AC loses coolness and produces normal warm air. i.e. at a stop light. When I get moving again and the engine gains RPM, it gets cold but periodically gets warm when cruising at constant speeds (little engine load). While traveling highway as well, car will losing AC for no apparent reason. Stops for 2-3 minutes, then cools down again.

This is not a capacity problem.

This is not a refrigerant problem.

This is either a problem with the programming in the ECU, or a faulty sensor of some kind that is preventing the A/C clutch from engaging when the engine is at low RPMs.

Local Dealer is great to work with. Had service check twice and both times found no leak. As car idles, AC loses coolness and produces normal warm air. Once moving, it gets cold but periodically gets warm. While traveling highway as well, car will losing AC for no apparent reason. Stops for 2-3 minutes, then cools down again.

System seems under-designed
