WRX Premium 2.0L Turbo

  • Manual transmission
  • 22,500 miles

On December 3, 2016, I was driving my 2015 WRX and I noticed the clutch didn't seem to be catching like it was previously. I thought maybe it was because the car wasn't warmed up. Then the problem got worse and worse. A couple of days later it was to the point that when I tried to accelerate, the car would barely get going and then there would be a horrible burning smell from the engine. I thought maybe some computer had gone out and the turbo wasn't working anymore. I told my friend who races cars what was going on and he said "the clutch has gone out." I replied with, "no way, my car only has 22,400 miles on!" The car finally got bad enough I had to get a rental to drive because the Subaru dealership couldn't take my car in. When they could take my car in for repairs, after looking at it, they said, "a bearing went bad and the clutch needs to be replaced." WHAT? Are you kidding me? I have been driving since 1990 and have ONLY driven manual transmission cars. I have NEVER had a clutch go bad on me so quickly! In fact, my last car, a Mazda 3, the clutch lasted to 110,000 miles and then I sold the car. I did a search and found this website where other complaints about the WRX clutch going out quickly, were lodged. I'm starting to think it's a problem with this car! I bought a Subaru thinking I had purchased a car that would last for years and now I'm not so sure. I can't replace a clutch every 22,000 ish miles! Otherwise, if you haven't already, please go to this website and lodge a complaint, so we get our voices heard! http://www.safercar.gov/

WRX Limited 2.0L 4 cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 43,000 miles

2015 WRX Limited, 4 Cylinder 6 Speed, 43000 miles.

Yep, clutch & plate are destroyed. Fragile piece of sh*t.

Clutch has been slipping the last few weeks, gears wouldn't register. I'd be in 4th, my car would be saying I'm in 3rd, couldn't get past 4000 RPM without slipping. Brought it to the dealership to have it looked, & hopefully covered. Ended up getting a quote from the dealership. Waited a little over a week to get the money situated since it wasn't covered.

While waiting i got a 2nd quote from a reputable performance shop. Couple days later, clutch gave out along with pressure plate while driving. THE WORST SMELL & NOISE EVER! Cabin filled with smoke also. Towed the car home.

Going with the performance shop because of a stronger clutch & pressure plate compared to oem & price ratio.

Labor is $600.- Clutch Kit $1021.-

Agitated.

Had the car a couple of months, clutch went. The dealership said I didn't know how to drive the car. Had four different cars with clutches, never had a problem with any of them. Got the car back heard noises and brought it back. They said they had to change throw out bearing . Got the car back still heard noises. They said to bring it back when I get the oil changed. Brought it back 3 months later. They said I don't know how to drive the car and they had to put in another clutch and charged me 1200 dollars. They had the car another 18 days. Told me to come pick it up.

Got Tree would not release the car to me because it really wasn't finished yet. Called me the next night said it was ready for pick up. Went to pick it up. Drove it about two miles from the show room, all check engine lights came on and car stalled on highway. Thank God was able to push to the side of the road. Told them where the car was. They towed tt back for repair next day. Got a call we can pick up the car. It was safe. It was a turbo hose that was not connected.

Had the car about ten days. Husband was on highway going about 50 when the check engine lights came on car just stopped. He was lucky he wasn't killed. Had to call police to make sure he wasn't going to get hit. Car was towed to another dealership because by this time I didn't know who to trust. Got a phone call from new dealership said the same thing. I did something to the engine because I don't know how to drive the car.

They had to put in a new engine because something happened to the engine block. They said this time it is under warranty. It only had 16000 miles on it. When I went to pick it up I asked them to come out with me for a ride. He said I don't have to because it was a defect in the engine. I think this car has problems but they will not let me out of my lease

WRX Premium 4 Turbo

  • Manual transmission
  • 4,400 miles

Picked the car up from the body shop after being repaired for some front end damage due to a dog running in front of the car and swerving up over a curb. Car seemed to drive fine to the house. Drove the car the next morning and the engine was revving every time I shifted. Car would not register past second gear, clutch engagement seemed non existent. Brought it back to the body shop and they brought it to Subaru. Subaru asked insurance company to pay for 8 hours to evaluate problem I was told the clutch needed to be replaced and the repair would cost $1800.

I immediately searched the Internet for problems with this year and model and found there were clutch problems. This was my fourth clutch car and I never had to replace a clutch in any of them. The Subaru dealer told me it was from abusive driving!! The car is 6 months old with 4400 miles on it. I called Subaru of America and informed them of my issue and they contacted the dealer. The dealer reiterated that the clutch looked like it had been driven abusively, which is not the case.

The dealership replaced the clutch as a goodwill this time and told me if they sent the clutch to Subaru of America that they would have not given them permission to replace it!! I keep my cars till they have 100,00-200,000 miles on them and buy the extended warranty. I don't think a car would last that long if you drive them abusively!! I told Subaru that if the clutch had to be replaced within another 5-7,000 miles that I would sell the car and never buy another Subaru (this happens to be my third Subaru-the last two were Outbacks). I'm still really upset that they blame me for the clutch burning out!! I hope Subaru is researching this problem.

WRX 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 5,400 miles

The clutch stopped working at 5400 miles. Towed it to dealership and was told it was abuse and would not be covered under warranty. After much back and forth with Subaru of America "investigator" they decided they would make a one time exception and pay half the cost. Set me back $950. When iI got the car back it felt like a new car. Shifting was much smoother. I got the short throw shifter option factory installed. I truly feel there is a design flaw with the OEM clutch and Subaru is covering up. I have driven many manual transmissions over the years and never feared driving them "spirited", but this car may continue to be costly.
