WRX Limited 2.0L

I wasn't going to post but after speaking with Subaru of Canada rep today, I just couldn't help it.

Rewind few weeks back, I have changed my engine oil and noticed some oil on the front differential. I have noticed that during the previous oil change and figured it was a spill from an engine oil change. So I cleaned it and decided to keep an eye on it. This time around I checked, even before the engine oil change and sure enough the was some oil on the front differential.

Checking on the internet, I came across a TSB 16-103-16R issued for various Subaru models including 2015 WRX. This TSB came along with another TSB 16-107-17R that provided an extended warranty for 1.5 million cars across US and Canada. Unfortunately 2016 WRX CVT wasn't in this list. After bringing the car to my dealer in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, they indicated that it will be covered under warranty at no charge. While it is better than at least $1000 out of the pocket, still I am financing the car and expected to keep it for 10 years. Now with this repair, a transmission has to come out (at the very least) in order to gain access to the oil pump cover. Asking a dealer if CVT fluid would a least be replaced, I was told that it is not required and they will simply top up whatever was lost during repair. Clearly, they have not fixed the issue with 2016 and there are reports of 2017 WRXs with the same issue. Yet the extended warranty is not available and fluid is not being replaced.

Coming back to the reason I am posting this. After sending an email to Subaru of Canada inquiring about extended warranty I got an auto reply the same day and then crickets for 2 weeks. Finally as my car was at the dealer and dealer didn't want to replace the CVT fluid, I called SOC. The agent was initially nice and offered to call the dealer first and then call me back. Got a call back in 5 mins tops. She said she agrees with the dealer that it is not required and the extended warranty does not apply as it is a completely different car (from 2015 WRX CVT as well as US WRX is completely different car from Canadian version).

While I understand that officially there is no warranty extension yet (the more people will post with 2016, 2017 year cars the better chances Subaru would hear this), I was arguing that it is not a completely different car and most of the parts on it have the same part numbers and that virtually the same car a year before had exactly the same problem....and one of a sudden she just hangs up on me...I though, OK, line dropped, she has my number and will call right back. Nope, didn't care. Didn't have any arguments, didn't offer to speak to anyone else, just hung up without even telling me that she cannot help me any further will would have to hang up...I was talking and she just hang up. I was not even yelling or upset. I was firm and provided valid arguments... There you have it, first class customer service from Subaru of Canada.
