The factory car alarm kept going off randomly. Neighbours came to my front door to complain. Finally had the car admitted to the Subaru dealership. Cause. Hood latch sensor failure. Ok, very regular maintenance, so maybe the hood has been open and closed 60 times in the life of the car to date. No breach of rubber seal under the hood, and no damage or accidents. Subaru is the primary source all service. Not covered under warranty? I was shocked. I repeated "hood latch sensor?" to them in awe. The car is just over two years old, factory stock all around. No damage, and escalated service on all items. I take care of my cars. Not my door handle, opened beyond 1000 times. The answer from the Subaru tech, its the winter conditions and salt here in Canada. I responded they have snow in Japan!? Yes but they dont use as much salt was the answer. No salt, or any other exterior exposure is visible under the hood? Nothing, since its sealed. So then I asked, if that is the case, will I be paying for this again in 2 years? No, this new sensor has been improved due to this issue, was the response. So its a known issue, and Subaru is not covering the cost of their engineering failure? Yup its on me to cover all the costs. $400.00
