XV Crosstrek Premium 2.0L

  • CVT transmission
  • 56,000 miles

So, This is a 2013 XV Cross Trek Premium CVT. Howling coming from rear driveline. Bad rear left wheel bearing. No salty roads or other obvious intrusion from elements. Has only 56,000 miles on it. Very premature failure for so low mileage. Lives in a garage, not kept outside, very mild winters. Thank You, good luck. Cheers

Left rear wheel bearing failed WAY too soon- just over 43,000 miles. I've never had a wheel bearing fail this early!

Subaru fixed it under warranty, even though it had (fairly recently) expired. Based on what I'm seeing online, this is a common problem with this year/model. I'm told that the other three are fine right now, but I'm concerned now that those might fail prematurely as well.

Replacing the fifth wheel bearing. Seems like a regular occurrence. One wheel bearing went at 174,000 miles but one wheel has been replaced twice. At $450 a bearing it gets expensive. The first three seemed to wear out sooner then they should have. Seems like a common problem for Crosstrek owners.

XV Crosstrek Limited 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61,000 miles

Horrible! At 61000mi, both rear bearings failed just after my extended warranty (5yr/100000mi) expired on time (just two months over 5 years).

Cost to replace was very high! Dealer charged $1100.00 to fix. Now I am waiting when other two in front will fail!

See a lot of complaints about same problem - should be a recall!

60,000 mi is very low in car life and I had cars driven to 200000K with no wheel bearing problems.

XV Crosstrek Limited 2.0L

  • CVT transmission
  • 72,600 miles

Passenger rear wheel bearing failed at 72,000 miles. Subaru would not cover under warranty. New bearing fixed the humming noise which was most obvious above 40 mph. At 83,000 the noise returned. Not sure if it is the same wheel or a different wheel failing. May be moving away from Subaru on next vehicle.

TOOK MY CAR IN FOR 1 BEARING TO BE REPLACED (SO UNUSUAL WITH THIS LOW MILEAGE), AND HAD TO COME BACK BECAUSE THREE WERE GONE. I REALLY FEEL THAT ALL FOUR SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED. MY HUSBAND DRIVES A 2005 TACOMA, AND REPLACED HIS BEARINGS TO 368,000 KMS. NOT IMPRESSED WITH SUBARU QUALITY JUST NOW.

Glad to have figured out that the humming sound was rear wheel bearings. They were replaced at no extra charge by my extended warranty. Nice and quiet now.

I'm disappointed to have the rear bearing fail so soon. My mechanic was VERY surprised. I've googled around and this seems to be a problem with the Crosstrek. I think Subaru should cover this repair, maybe go back to the parts manufacturer. I'm very disappointed. I expect more from Subaru.

Bought the car new right off the lot. I have never heard of this on a car with only 60 some thousand miles on it. Both of my sons are mechanics, and they both said it is hardly ever heard of. Has anyone else had this problem with the 2013 Crosstrek?
