problem #1

DL1000 1000cc

  • Manual transmission
  • 39,500 miles

This was all happening 7 months into the COVID-19 outbreak, so I new there would be problems getting parts and with the number of dealerships of all makes in the Denver market closing, getting an appointment in a timely manner was not likely. Wait period once scheduled was 30 days.

Charging system quit working. Had already replaced Stator @ 22,000 miles and assumed that the Stator had failed again, now @ 39,500 miles, close to 22,000 miles I got out of the original. Due to large delays in OEM parts, I went ahead and took a chance and ordered replacement. OEM backordered but found aftermarket (3 week turnaround).

Once I got in at a dealership in early October they found that the problem was the Magneto magnets had fallen off. Ordered and this is expected to take about 2 weeks to get in in (still waiting going into 2nd week). At this point, it appears that the stator was not damaged, but not sure.

Timing sucked, because we were experiencing an extended fall season with temperatures in mid 80's, forecasted till mid to late October. Another one bites the dust.
