Forenza 4-cyl

  • 240,000 miles
Vehicle slips out of drive when accelerating which causes it to lose power during highway driving. Seems to jump to neutral. Loss of speed and at the same time the engine will rev and RPM's will increase. This happens mostly on highway, sometimes on streets. This never happens when accelerating from a stop. This happened for weeks without a check engine light indicator on. Check engine light will only occur when reversing. Mechanic said the issue (P0700 and P0705) indicates a transmission sensor issue which is not covered under warranty. There are hundreds of Suzuki message forums and other complaints on this issue on the internet. I contacted Suzuki american headquarters and they claim to have no knowledge of this issue. This is a heavily hazardous issue that needs to be addressed before someone, hopefully not myself, dies.

This never happens when accelerating from a stop. This happened for weeks without a check engine light indicator on. When the light came on the mechanic said the codes(P0700 and P0705) indicate a transmission sensor issue which is not covered under warranty. 3rd time problem with the transmission range sensor. Why can Suzuki get away with not having a recall for this dangerous problem"? how many people have to have the exact same problem before something can be done about it? will it take someone being killed" I doubt if even that will help motivate them to do the right thing.

When turning my car on and putting it into reverse, the car suddenly jerked and the check engine light came on. The "R" should appear for reverse on the dash, but all the letters ("P", "R", "D", etc) were scrambled together. The car drove in reverse and when I put it into drive, it jerked again and then would hardly accelerate. After driving it for a couple minutes, turning it off, and turning it back on, it would finally accelerate normally, but the check engine light would still be on and the gears would still jerk. The check engine light would go off after a few days and everything would be fine, but still the same problem happens again in a short term.

Forenza 4-cyl

  • 53,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 Suzuki Forenza. The contact stated that the vehicle began to lose radiator fluid sporadically. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic, who was unable to locate a leak of any sort. No repairs were made to the vehicle and the vehicle continued to lose fluid. Several weeks later while accelerating from a traffic stop at 45 mph, smoke was seen coming from under the hood. In addition, the engine temperature began to increase rapidly. The contact assumed that the failure was caused by a faulty radiator. The vehicle was parked and upon further inspection, the contact discovered that radiator coolant had exploded all over the engine compartment and under the hood area. The vehicle was inspected by a second mechanic, who advised that the engine cooling fans were failing sporadically. In addition, the head gasket was failing. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that the transmission range sensor would recurring fail. The transmission range sensor had been replaced four times over the course of 5 years. The manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 53,000.

Tonight while driving 65mph on a major highway my check engine light came on. I didn't notice anything weird until I exited the highway and came to the first red light. When the light turned green and I pushed the gas, my car took forever to accelerate. This continued until I got home, where I checked the codes: Transmission range sensor and transmission control sensor. I am ticked! last October (8 mos ago) I was driving about 35 mph in heavy traffic when my car seemed to fall out of gear and would not accelerate. After 11 days in the shop they found it was the transmission range sensor and replaced it... now apparently it's broken again"?"!!! so I got online to look into it and I find this site with tons of complaints about this same problem... I guess no one cares until someone dies, and then maybe they will decide to make it a recall... this is ridiculous.

I was on the highway when out of no where my car jerked and slowed speed. I almost got rear ended. I then tried to accelerate and it drug. Instead of catching back up to speed it took a minute to reach the speed of what was posted. And since then its been very hard to drive. I took it to shop they said I need a new transmission range sensor. They also said this is a very common issue with Suzuki Forenza. But its very dangerous I do feel that this should qualify for a recall. For a reference the Suzuki dealer sales the transmission range sensor for $38.99 and the mechanic charged $25 labor.

Why isn't any thing being done about this problem with the transmission range sensor!!!!! Suzuki needs to acknowledge that this a serious problem. I initially just got on here to file a complaint and started reading there are alot of people with this same issue. Please take some kinda of responsibility for this issue. I have had to fix my transmission range sensor more than once. This week will make the 2nd time in a year! I was driving in a 35 mile zone and my car would not even go the speed limit a car alot rammed me from behind. It slows in the middle of traffic and sometimes wont go backwards. Something needs to be done. It seems clear that there is an active issue with the transmission range sensor in Suzuki Forenzas.

While driving I heard a loud "thunk" sound and then my car went basically into neutral. Had a car been right behind me I would have been rear ended. The check engine light went on and the transmission range sensor has to be replaced. The same exact thing happened in September of 2012 and I had it replaced then, only 9 short months ago. When speaking with the parts and service folks at david norman Suzuki I was informed that this is a very common problem with this vehicle. Had I been on the highway I could have been killed. Definitely a safety problem that warrants a recall.
