2008 Suzuki SX4. Consumer writes in regards to an electrical problem. The consumer stated he was pulled over by a police office, for inoperative taillights. After an inspection, the police officer discovered the brake lights were not working as well, the only light working was the turn signal lights and the reverse lights. Some fuses were blown and replaced. The next day, a motorist informed the consumer, the taillights were not working. Again, the fuse had blown. While leaving work the next day, the consumer smelled smoke. He looked at the hood, then looked inside the car and he finally looked in the rear view mirror where smoke was coming from the trunk of the vehicle. He was able to pull over and shut the vehicle off. The consumer inspected the trunk, and there was a smell of electrical wiring coming from the drivers side taillight, which had caught on fire and welded themselves together. The consumer replaced the wiring. However, the vehicle was taken to the dealer, because the burned wires were traced back to the drivers seat. The dealer stated the harness in the trunk had caught fire and damaged two other harnesses.

SX4 air bags recall number: 13V405000 recall date: 09/06/2013 problem summary: Suzuki motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 grand vitara and 2007-2011 SX4 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, over time, the OCS sensor mat installed in the front passenger seat may fail due to repeated flexing of the mat from use of the seat. As a result, during a crash necessitating deployment, the air bag will deploy regardless of whether the front seat occupant is an adult or a child. Consequence: Air bag deployment with a child in the front passenger side seat increases the risk of injury to that child. Corrective action: Suzuki will notify owners and dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion assembly (which includes the OCS sensor mat) free of charge. Sufficient quantities of parts are not currently available to fix all of the affected vehicles. Owners will be notified of the recall in October 2013 and will receive a second notification when parts are available to have their vehicle repaired. Owners may contact Suzuki at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki's recall campaign number is vd.

The sensor light for the passenger air bag went on and wont reset the mechanic checked via diagnostic computer the light and said its a faulty sensor but changing it would require $1,500 passenger seat replacement because the unit is integral meanwhile the passenger seat belt light is on regardless if belt is engaged and I don't know the implications to the air bag functionality.

2008 Suzuki SX4- took into dealership for complaint of ticking noise under the hood. After a $98 diagnostic fee they determined it needed a new engine because of bad rods due to oil starvation. After talking with service manager and dealership general manager both decided that repairs were not covered under 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Also the air bag warning light stays on and it was also determined that the entire seat would have to be replaced in addition to the catalytic convertor being replaced due to bad oxygen sensor. I have proof of all maintance and service repairs to include oil changes etc. I requested a meeting with general manager and was assured that he would investigate situation and get back with me in a couple of days. It has been a week and only communication I have received is a text message on my cell phone stating that no part of the powertrain warranty would apply even though the powertrain warranty includes all things listed in diagnostic review of the car this is extremely unprofessional and shows that Suzuki does not stand by their products. A lot more to this story>>>>>> information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The light for the airbags driver and passenger came on, then went off, 1 week later they came on and stayed on. They gave me all kinds of excuses, ex- "someone must have not been sitting on the seat properly!!!!!!!! we went around for almost a year. Then they said well the mileage is over!!!!!!!!!! then L threatened to contact you. They said Suzuki authorized them to only charge me 50% of the fee. L find that strange especially after they told me all the other there was nothing they could do, now offer me 50% hmmm, that shows me there is a problem. L am including a copy of a report that there have been 31 complaints on the same thing.if we get in an accident the bags will not work. Putting our lives at risk. Can L sue them. They need to fix this before someone dies. One of the reports state a man went through(he is alive) his windshield because the bag did not deploy. Can you help.

Copied this from this site"the ECU also performs regular diagnostic checks of the air bag system. If the ECU identifies a problem, the air bag readiness (warning) light will illuminate on the instrument panel. When the air bag readiness light is illuminated, the air bag system might not perform properly in a crash." Part of the required safety features required on most new vehicles is what was stated. Corrected the mileage from previous complaint.... my 2008 Suzuki SX4 shows the air bag light on along with the passenger seat belt light on(even when occupied) according to the above statement "when the air bag readiness light is illuminated, the air bag system might not perform properly in a crash." So here I am. I followed up with a visit to Suzuki dealer and $45 later they told me exactly what was stated on sites code B1312 and that I need a new passenger seat cushion, that the sensor was not working. Then they hit me with a cost of $1009.82 + tax to replace a cushion...mind you a part that is mandated to be on vehicle and working. This is obscene and I refused then they offered to cut it in half $600 +...why do I have to pay anything for a obvious defect in their system as indicated by other entries on here and other sites pertaining to the same problem. Is everyone waiting for a major accident. Also they could not tell me if all was disabled, part disabled or none were disabled. Action is definitely needed by someone or some Agency to step in and address this problem.

Also the front tires and the driver-side brakes have prematurely failed. The dealer cannot identify the cause of the failure. The current mileage was 31,000. The failure mileage was 3,000.

The car doesn't start when I turn the key, if its too hot out or cold out. It takes 30 minutes of turning the key over before the car will start. I have brought it into the dealership 4 or 5 times now, and they put a downward tail pipe on it, but still hasn't fixed the problem.
