4Runner SR-5 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 160,665 miles

The actual cost exceeded 10 grand - the blown head gasket took out engine and radiator. Took 8 years to come up with the cash. New Jasper remanufactured engine R/R over 4 grand but radiator and other issues that came from sitting required extensive other replacement. That Toyota knew the head gasket was a problem and didn't have dealers advise or them notify me of a recall is unacceptable. However, Jasper engine states the problem and an oil cooler problem are fixed in the replacement engine. 160,000 +/- for an engine is terrible. However, love the car and paid to restore as it can go anywhere and will get me home in any weather. Toyota brand has diminished in my esteem.

4Runner SR5 3.0L V6

  • Manual transmission

OK, we had thought that we got a good truck in this 95 4Runner.....nope. It should be called the Toyota $Runner!!!!

I remember the day vividly. We had just pulled out of the parking lot at the doctor's office and....BAM, the check engine light came on. We were wondering what was up but didn't have the funds to take it in, cause you know we spent all our money on GAS for this thing cause it guzzles it with no real power, isn't it supposed to be a V6? Anyways, we just ran it and ran it and finally got the codes read. Yeah, so we changed both the oxygen sensors, cause you know they need two. Then we changed the Mass Air Flow Sensor and did a major tune up.....AND....it FAILED SMOG!!!!!! Thanks $Runner....thanks.

We were now driving a gross polluter around thinking oh, it just has a bad spark plug or a loose wire. Took it in for diagnostics at a local auto shop, nope, they said you have a leaky/blown head gasket. AHHHHHH!!!!!! Our $Runner now had over 209 thousand miles on it and the auto shop said it's better to get a new engine or scrap it. So we scrapped it and got some money. Now we are without a car because our $Runner decided to take a crap. Thanks, NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Blown Head Gaskets. No help from Toyota even though it's a carry over from earlier recalls.
