Corrosion of pistons in front brake calipers results in an increase in braking stopping distance. Everytime the front brake pads are replaced the same issue is encountered, defect has taken place three times. In the four piston brake caliper the inside pistons on both the left and right caliper are frozen in place. The brake pads on the outside position have twice as much wear as the inside pads. This is an indication of uneven braking leading to increased stopping distance. Toyota maintains, there is not a problem, yet in forums on the web there are many experiences with owners having the same problem, resulting in costly repair bills. There is no warning of reduced braking efficiency.

My 2006 Toyota 4 runner, I've found a large amount of rust through out the frame of the vehicle. I feel the vehicle is not safe to drive. Toyota has frame replacement recalls to the Tundra, and sequias but not the 4runner. I feel this is an issue that Toyota is aware of. I also feel that something should be done for manufacturing a vehicle with defective chassis.

Just recently I have noticed that when I apply the brake pedal it "sticks" takes ( when driving) couple seconds to resume it original position and I can hear a click. I am taking it to my mechanic to ensure is not critical. Just wanted to know if there is a recall on this. Also, since approximately 2014 the original manufacture paint have gradually being deteriorating to the point which the whole body needs a new paint job. Specifically, the paint have completed faded on most parts of the body, the clear coat is completely peeling off. I am the only owner of this vehicle and I have taken good care of it, only 125 K registered.

The frame is so rusted everywhere that it is unsafe to drive. One huge hole is completely broken through both sides of the frame and the bottom plate has cracked through. I have a highly reputable welding shop set to repair and patch this but I feel Toyota needs to take care of this before it costs me everything.

The breaks pulse when your stopping and there have been two instances when I experienced the breaks unexpectedly went out or slipped...it's hard to explain exact feeling but it was scary. The traction control light came on when I was at a stop sign at a slight hill and the breaks made a strange noise this happened twice however the light only came on the one time. Then while driving the ABS, traction, break, and another light all came on at once. This was just random while driving normally. About 20min later they went out. Also while setting at the light or being stopped while in great the car pushes forward while the break is depressed. These things fave been random when the breaks felt as if I had lost them I was turning a corner and stepped on the breaks while in the turn they made a slight noise and I let up when I felt as if I was losing them then depressed again. The second time it happened I was in a normal straight road and depressed the breaks and again it felt as if I had lost them...I jerked a little as it scared me being in traffic then I let up and depress them again and if felt normal. Again it has been totally random. Also my tire pressure light comes on quite frequently and I keep losing a little pressure in all tires.

My 2006 Toyota 4runner limited has excessive rust corrosion throughout the undercarriage of the vehicle including but not limited to the frame, suspension, brakes, wheels, exhaust system and bolts/bracing. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have had to replace both front axles due to excessive rust at the recommendation of both the dealership and a third party mechanic. While driving, the skid plate detached from underneath the vehicle and was dragging beneath the car after the metal on the plate rusted out around the bolts. Similarly, the heat shield detached while driving on the highway after the bolts rusted out. When I replaced the front brakes (pads & discs), I was forced to purchase brand new calipers because the current calipers were so rusted and seized and the mechanic could not reattach them. I have continued to use Toyota dealerships for scheduled maintenance and the consensus has been as follows: Sell the 4runner because it is excessively rusted would be a money pit to repair. Currently, the dealership has recommended I replace the steering rack and pinion due to leaks caused by rust. Moreover, the vehicle has duel exhaust leaks in both exhaust manifolds due to excessive rust. On multiple occasions the dealership told me they could not perform the work because of excessive rust. It has cost me thousands to repair and maintain, all of which is a result of extensive rust. The suspension and frame, including the shocks, struts, and bolts are excessively rusted and I have been urged to repair or sell the vehicle by multiple mechanics and dealerships, though the cost to do so would far exceed the cost of the vehicle. All of the aforementioned is detailed in paperwork from the dealership and supplemented by paperwork from third party mechanics here in san diego. The vehicle has 90K miles on it and has followed scheduled maintenance meticulously.

The vehicle was towed to ira Toyota of tewksbury (468 main St, tewksbury, MA 01876, (978) 863-9009), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact also noticed rust on the frame. The dealer informed the contact to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 100,000.

4runner has been garage kept, and the exterior looks perfect, lost all brake fluid, mechanic put on lift and found left rear brake line rusted through and then pointed out that the frame is severly rusted and would not pass inspection. Trailer hitch, will fall off if I try and use it. Box frame is rusted out on the bottom from front of vehicle to the very back. My wifes 2000 Lexus SUV has no rust on frame and drives the same commute each day as me.

Takata inflators, ABS. Purchased vehicle used 08/12/2016 the following mil codes were cleared by selling dealership. C1223, P0456, B1150, CR123, C1241, B1152. Needed repair immediately, passed state inspection even needing the following repairs, both front axles, serp belt, sway bar link and rear brakes.08/24/2016 vehicle repaired by selling dealer and returned with flat tire, I had it towed to tire garage because spare was too old and incorrect size. After I picked up from tire repair I made an appointment for an unrepaired safety recall from 2012 on the ABS at a local dealership. Prior to service appointment I was driving over a speed bump and the vehicle would not drive over bump, ABS lights came on and vehicle rolled backwards. Had towed to Toyota dealer for service(I have receipt for tow) a couple days later dealer said recall was completed but would not provide any documentation for repairs. That dealership broke a lug stud on the front tire in but did not repair it. They said its ok to drive on 5 lugs its a 6 lug rim. I then brought the vehicle to another Toyota dealer for repairs because the vehicle started rolling backwards on inclines and not accelerating. Very scary because I almost rolled back into cars, also tire pressure light was on but all tires were inflated. They had it from 09/12/2016-09/26/2016. Unfortunately could not duplicate concern but did repair the lug stud, tire pressure sensor and recalibrated the ABS and airbag light(I was not informed until picked up about the airbag). I also had an oil change. Vehicle having issues as of today right turns I hear a loud clunking sound and wobble when hitting bumps on highway speeds.. the ball joints might be bad. I can see them covered in grease and have play. I am concerned that the vehicle is unsafe and was in an undisclosed major accident prior to purchase. Next app is not until 10/24.

I have a 2006 Toyota 4 runner that has been developing excessive rust flaking on the rear axle housing, brake components, frame and rear suspension componets.we have had warranty work performed approx. 1 year ago and the mechanics at Toyota stated they needed to replace or repair various transmission lines before they would return the vehicle to my wife. I asked them what am I suppose to do about all the rust problems and they really didnt have a answer and said I need to talk to the service manager that was not there at the time. I have made every attempt to radicate this issue that has been getting worse over time. Vehicle is garage kept and was purchased new as we are the only owner of this vehicle. Myself and everyone else know Toyota knows about this problem and refused to do anything about it. My fear is that we are on a trip and have catastrophic failure of one or more components and getting in a accident. There was no accident yet.

The contact stated that the front brake caliper was replaced once every year from the date of purchase. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.

The pistons in both front calipers have frozen up and had to be replaced twice. The first time at 90,000 miles and again at 160,000. Many forums on the 4th gen 4runners document many people others having had the same problem. I asked the dealer and they said that it was not a problem they were aware of. This seems to be a design/factory defect. It is very dangerous.

Coming to a stop sign at about 30 mph I applied brakes at normal pressure. There was a loud snap and car suddenly veered hard left. Took it to service center for evaluation. The front right rotor was broken. The disc had separated from the hat. Service center replaced both front rotors and inspected all brakes, on July 24th, the same thing happened with the front left rotor, which is only a few months old. Something very dangerous is wrong with the brake system on this vehicle that is actually breaking the rotors. If this were to happen at higher speeds it could cause complete loss of control of the vehicle.

We were stopped at a stop light at the time of the incident. An alarm went off in the car and the red brake light came on. At that point we rolled the car to see if the brakes were working. This is when we realized there were no brakes and the only break we had was our emergency brake. It was taken to a nearby mechanic where it was determined that a caliper over-extended causing the brake fluid to leak out- losing the hydraulic brake system all together. Luckily we were not moving at the time of the incident because having lost the entire break system while moving could have been extremely dangerous.

Driving in rain on freeway connector road, 25 mph, required to use brakes due to another driver illegally swerving from slow lane of freeway adjacent to connector road, across two solid lines, in front of a car that hit their brakes, and was rear-ended by a second car, which was in front of me. I had plenty of distance to stop, but when I stepped on my brakes, they instantly locked up and my 4runner immediately began to slide...no control at all to slow down, and it felt like I actually increased speed. I know what ABS feels like, and my brakes are new, installed in July 2012 at a Toyota dealer service dept. This ABS system failed! no pulsating feeling, nothing but locked up brakes, which resulted in my hitting the car in front of me. The truck that made the change, and was almost 90 degrees to the lane we were in then took off. He was not hit, but I chased and caught him for chp. My 4runner is crushed because of an idiot, and the failure of my ABS to properly function. I have been safely driving 44 years.

I brought my car in for regular service and new brake pads and rotors. I was told one of the brake calipers on the front wheels was frozen. If the brake caliper is frozen, then the car has significantly reduced stopping power. There was no engine light indicating the problem. Multiple people have complained about calipers on the 4 runner. Please conduct an investigation and seek a response from Toyota.
