Yesterday 8/12/09, I noticed the A/C light flickering on my dash of my 05 Avalon. As it has been very hot and humid outside, I remember thinking that it would be annoying if the A/C didn't cool my car. When I drove out of the driveway, I noticed a strange engine sound. My car sounded like it had a quiet diesel engine under the hood. I took it to my local repairman, he checked the oil for me. The dipstick was dry. He added 4.5 quarts of oil. I called Toyota and scheduled an appointment for today. I drove my car home about 8 blocks and parked it in the driveway.
After reading the complaints on this site, I am curious to what Toyota will do for me. My extended warranty recently ran out, and I have 93000 miles on my beautiful car. I drove my 1998 Camry until it had 365,000 miles on it, then sold it to a neighbor. He is still driving it. I didn't expect to have any trouble with this Avalon.The Toyota dealer is 1 hour away from my home. I think I will have to call for a tow truck, I am very worried. I will post again after my service appointment today.
