Collision with another vehicle while making a left turn. Driver's upper and lower (knee) airbags deployed. Driver incurred severe cuts to both legs below the knee approximately half way down to ankle. Cause of injuries has not been determined but inspection of vehicle disclosed that the knee airbag containment compartment in the low part of the dash has a flap/door that opens in deployment, is very extremely sharp and may have been the source of the injuries.

The dashboard has developed several cracks all across it. And the tape between the windshield and dashboard has also come loose and is peeling away from the interior base of the glass. At the time I made a complaint to the dealer but they told me to call Toyota because I would have to pay for fixing it myself as they could do nothing.

Have had Toyota Avalons before, 2000, 2005, and Toyota cars since 1973 (corona, Camry etc.) but have never experienced this type damage. Told dealership. They say not under warranty. Told it will cost $5,00 to repair do I have a any ground?

It was daylight at approximately 3 pm local time. We were on good interstate road with moderate traffic and dry payment. We were on I-65 about 10 miles South of franklin, tn. My wife and I were the only passengers in our vehicle and we were both wearing seat belts. We are the original vehicle owner and the vehicle has been well maintained. We were not impaired and had stopped for a rest break and a driver change 15 minutes earlier. She was driving, I was in the front passenger seat. We were in the left lane. The driver immediately in front us in the right lane suddenly swerved into our lane for reasons unknown. We had traffic to our immediate right so the only place available for my wife to avoid was the left edge of the highway which is where she went. The left shoulder was rough due to recent construction in the area. She lost control and we spun out in the grassy medium without hitting anything. She was unhurt. My right clavicle was broken in two places with the two breaks the width of the shoulder belt apart which is assumed to be the proximate cause of the break. I was evacuated by ambulance to the nearest trauma center and had surgery two weeks later to repair my clavicle. It took surgery, the largest clavicle plate they make, and 10 screws to put my shoulder back together. Our air bags did not fire. Our seat belt pre-tensioners did not fire. The other vehicle fled the scene. Our car was repaired at a state farm certified repair center.

On or about may, 2012, my wife and I started to notice small cracks all over the dashboard! then within a couple of months the entre dashboard looked as it were melting and I couldn't figure out why since the car has been garage kept since the day I bought it. Then the melting turned into a sheen, making it impossible to see without squinting and wearing sun glasses and putting the sun visors down so I waited a while and saw on the internet that it was a very serious problem so on 9-5-13 I called Toyota hotline and was given a complaint number ([xxx]) and told the they would not do anything since the car was out of warranty. I explained the it was a serious safety problem and still nothing! I also went to lipton Toyota on 8-20-13 and spoke to the service director, [xxx], and explained the problem to him and he also took pictures to show to his representative. He called me back a couple of days later and told me that his boss wanted nothing to do with it but that he would split the cost with me and replace the dash board for $900 out of my pocket. I told him that the offer was outrageous, I explained that if it were my fault 100% I would pay the &1,800, if it were 50% my fault I would pay the $900, but since it was Toyota's fault 100% they should replace the dashboard at their expense. He told me forget it! ([xxx] phone # is 954-735-1330 ext [xxx]) the location of the dealership is 1700 w. oakland park blvd. Ft. lauderdale, fl. 33311.... information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

As I was wiping down my dashboard I noticed a fine hairline crack about an inch long. Within a week it grew another 2 inches. Now approximately two months since I noticed the first crack I have another crack in a different spot. This crack is about an inch and a half long. Both are in the area of the air back. My car is in perfect condition as I have always done the recommended maintenance and I keep my car parked in a garage at home and at work. I am extremely disappointed that my top of the line Avalon is turning to crap!

The dashboard on my 07 Toyota Avalon has become sticky, all cracked up and emittes a sticky chemical that creates a blinding glare during daytime hrs. Especially when its sunny outside! I went to my local dealer and without even looking at the car he said that his dealership would split the cost with me of about $800 each to replace the dashboard. He said that Toyota has been aware of the problem for some time but refuses to acknoledge that the subcontract that made the dashboards used a faulty material and since the warranty has expired, they were not willing to do anything about it. I bought the top of the line Avalon with all the bells and whistles new, garage kept it, washed and waxed it myself and now this. I always thought that Toyota was a reliable company and would stand behind their products, but found out just the opposite. Not only the Avalon but the Camry, corolla and the Lexus 350 which is made by Toyota. I have searched the web extensively and there seems to be no 'one' answer. Some dealers are replacing the dash, some are offering to cover materials and some only offering 20% discounts. Can you contact me or refer me to the proper department to submit a claim for a replacement. As this is clearly a Toyota 'product related' problem, I would expect that Toyota would have a resolution to fix/replace the dash as needed! since I'm retired and on a fixed income, paying out of pocket for Toyota faulty, dangerous material is not an option, I'll make sure that anyone that I know, and with all the associations that I belong to there are plenty of people, know that Toyota has dropped the ball on this one! this has become a very serious safety hazard with all the glare that it's causing. Toyota had better hope that neither my wife or I have a serious car accident due to their mishandeling of all the complaints and turning a deaf ear to the loyal Toyota owners!

My car was parked in a parking lot and was hit by some type of vehicle. The damage was extensive and the airbags deployed and the seat belt locked on the drivers side. The damage was to the right side. There was no one in the car and no witnesses as to what happened but it has been 4 weeks and my insurance is suddenly refusing to pay after issuing a work order to the repair person because the air bags deployed. There is a boat ramp across from the parking lot. I do not know for sure what hit my car, I just do not feel it is fair that usaa is telling me the airbag can not deploy without the ignition being on. I have not had a rental and had to drive my son's hunting truck which is very uncomfortable. They tried to say there was no way the car could have been hit in the parking lot. I have witnesses, one who confirmed that we found my car in the parking lot with the damage done and I was very upset when I saw it because I was sick and stress adds to my illness so I had someone drive my car to the repair shop and the guy told me it did not need to be driven again and to call in a report to the insurance company. The shop has almost finished the work and now the two investigators who came and interrogated me today and completely shocked me with what they were saying upset me greatly. If the airbag can not deploy when it should and has come out when no accident then why is there a problem with my airbag deploying when an obviously large vehicle hit it and did almost 9000 dollars in damage? please help me. I am a single mom who just moved from a home with black mold and my sister who financed the car for me has stage 4 lung cancer. I have so many diagnosis, I am on total disability. I am in the process of trying to buy a home after my kids and I have moved 5 times so I do not need this stress. I really need my car back. Thank you and god bless.
