Massive oil leak on garage floor. Serious stream of oil spilling from engine on passenger side. I had the car towed to Toyota this morning
My 2007 Avalon w/61,000 miles had a serious oil leak on passenger side of engine block. A heavy stream of oil was running onto the garage floor after I placed 4.5 quarts of oil in the crankcase. Diagnosed today as a burst oil hose! It must be the exact same problem that I’ve read about on this site. I see from this site that there are many of the same problems on 2005 & 2006 models, seems that Toyota has even more problems.
No warning lights - nothing! The wife's car hauling a special-needs child to many Drs appointment, very fortunate it was in the garage when I found the problem! I bought a Toyota instead of a cheaper Buick thinking that overtime I would realize the savings – hah! I'm thinking the Buick LaCross looks better ane better! I’ll also send a letter to Toyota Ok, Toyota – time to fess-up on this recall also! It cost me >$450 to fix the problem!

I went to pick my kids up from school and the car seemed to be fine. When we left the school, I heard a clacking sound. None of my warning lights were on so I drove the 3 miles to my house. My husband heard the sound and raised the hood to check. Oil was splattered all over the engine and down the passenger side of the car. The rest of the oil dumped out in our garage and then the oil light finally came on. I don't know if the clacking sound was metal on metal as I was driving or not. The Toyota dealer came to my house and picked it up and gave me a car off their lot as a loaner. They had to take a picture of the hose involved and send it to Toyota's technical dept. It turns out that this happened enough with the 05 and 06 models for Toyota to issue recalls. When my car was assembled, someone put one of these defective hoses from the previous year in my new 07 car, so I never got a recall notice. It wasn't even supposed to be in my car! The dealer's main concern was to try to sell me the loaner car, however, they wouldn't even give me the full pay off amount due on their own vehicle. I was 3 years into the loan. They replaced the hose and "listened" to the engine and thought it seemed ok. It didn't seem to run as quietly or smoothly as usual and my husband traded it in on a Cadillac CTS today. This was our first experience with the famously reliable Toyota and also our last. This car had a major problem at a lower mileage than any American car I've ever owned.

The oil line burst and there was no warning light that came on. Noticed it fairly soon because the engine started making a clacking sound. Pulled in to work and looked at the dipstick...no oil at all. The underside was splattered with oil and leaking badly. We called Toyota dealer immediately. They towed it in and repaired it under warranty.
Service rep said they replaced it with a like part and it seldom happens. He said there were no service bulletins for this problem but there should be. After reading about the 2006 Toyota Avalon troubles with the oil line bursting I see that it happens a lot, can cause severe engine damage, and there was a service bulletin issued for that year. Be careful with the Avalons! Great car but a bad design there!

This happened on my 2007 Avalon as well. I'm adding it here because I see that there is a trend going on for all the Avalons in the 2006 7 and 8 years. It appears that when you reach 40-50K miles on the Avalon the hose leaks. Most 07 drivers haven't hit that many miles just yet but there will be a deluge of those reports in the next 12 months

From what I've seen here, Toyota needs to recall for this issue. Here's what happened to me.
On Saturday evening, I was driving and noticed a strong odor and thought it was just fumes in heavy traffic. I did look at the dashboard to make sure no indicator lights lit and there were none. I was within 2 miles of home luckily. When I arrived home I realized there was a HUGE puddle of oil under my car. I checked dipstick and not a drop of oil on the dipstick. I had to have the car towed to dealership and they repaired under warranty. HOWEVER, Toyota was extremely petty about my rental car. I rented a CHEAP car because dealership was not open and weekly rate only $200 whereas daily would quickly add up. Now Toyota being petty and wants to reimburse me 4/7 of $200--geez --A daily rate would have cost them more. I saved them money but no common sense. I'm so disappointed that car is not the quality I thought I was buying and that they didn't go out of their wasy to make sure I was not inconvenienced by this repair. Changed my view of depenability.

I have a 2007 Toyota Avalon, Leased new, 20,000 miles . The VVti oil supply line burst and drained all the oil from the engine. Part was back ordered, one month. was replaced with what seems to be the same part. This problem is with any Toyota that has the V-6 3.2L engine. Toyota know of the problem, since 2005. was not fixed until 2008.
from the research I've done it, any V-6 from 2005 till 2008 has the potential for this problem. it most likely is not a "recall" item because there is no "safety issues". It is a mechanical problem, but it seems to be common.....

In May,2009, when the oil supply line blew, Toyota replaced it...In March 2010, when I brought the car in for the gas pedal recall they told me "oh, there's a recall on the VVTI oil supply line"...I told them they just replaced it last year.....they said "well it's been recalled" The fix they had was the same old rubber part that goes bad.
In 2009 they replaced this line with a solid metal line...DUH !!! I paid the dealer $240.00 to put the solid oil line on and replace the timing belt while they were at it.....They part number for the oil line is: 15772-31030 Description: 313 PIPE, OIL Cost for part: $33.19
I have peace of mind now, but I'd sure like to give them a piece of my mind....thinking I didn't know about the "problem" that they won't fix the right way because it would cost them WAY too much money to go back to all the V-6 engines from 2005 to 2008
This is a great web sight and it helped me fix the problem for good
