Collision with another vehicle while making a left turn. Driver's upper and lower (knee) airbags deployed. Driver incurred severe cuts to both legs below the knee approximately half way down to ankle. Cause of injuries has not been determined but inspection of vehicle disclosed that the knee airbag containment compartment in the low part of the dash has a flap/door that opens in deployment, is very extremely sharp and may have been the source of the injuries.

My concern is about my cracked dashboard material. It's cracked directly across where my airbag deploy, on the passenger side of my 2007 Toyota Avalon. It's got to be a safety hazard. I don't believe it will deploy correctly, should it's needed. With the material already cracked, I think it would do serious damage to someone's face or body. I don't need a lawsuit from a passenger, plus I don't want anyone to get hurt.. so if it's possible, please investigate this issue. There's know way for me to know if this issue is safe. Thanking you in advanced.

We were driving on the highway when we heard a crack noise on the dashboard. Two cracks appeared all of a sudden. Since then there have been 3 more cracks on the dashboard. They appear without any particular reason. The cracks are between the glovebox and the airbag on the passenger side. The car is garaged at all times, when not driven. The cracks appeared at 36,000 miles. We have contacted Toyota co. They took our complaint ref# 1308131120. According to them they do not show a recurring problem with cracking plastic in their cars. They won't do anything about it, because of the age of the car (2007). We are concerned that should we be involved in an accident where the airbags get inflated, we may sustain additional injuries by the plastic pieces coming apart from the dashboard and hitting us. Vehicle has around 39,0000 at this time.

My car was parked in a parking lot and was hit by some type of vehicle. The damage was extensive and the airbags deployed and the seat belt locked on the drivers side. The damage was to the right side. There was no one in the car and no witnesses as to what happened but it has been 4 weeks and my insurance is suddenly refusing to pay after issuing a work order to the repair person because the air bags deployed. There is a boat ramp across from the parking lot. I do not know for sure what hit my car, I just do not feel it is fair that usaa is telling me the airbag can not deploy without the ignition being on. I have not had a rental and had to drive my son's hunting truck which is very uncomfortable. They tried to say there was no way the car could have been hit in the parking lot. I have witnesses, one who confirmed that we found my car in the parking lot with the damage done and I was very upset when I saw it because I was sick and stress adds to my illness so I had someone drive my car to the repair shop and the guy told me it did not need to be driven again and to call in a report to the insurance company. The shop has almost finished the work and now the two investigators who came and interrogated me today and completely shocked me with what they were saying upset me greatly. If the airbag can not deploy when it should and has come out when no accident then why is there a problem with my airbag deploying when an obviously large vehicle hit it and did almost 9000 dollars in damage? please help me. I am a single mom who just moved from a home with black mold and my sister who financed the car for me has stage 4 lung cancer. I have so many diagnosis, I am on total disability. I am in the process of trying to buy a home after my kids and I have moved 5 times so I do not need this stress. I really need my car back. Thank you and god bless.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Avalon. In December 2009, while driving 30 mph on a bridge the vehicle began to fishtail but she was able to control it. The vehicle began to accelerate suddenly and although she depressed the brakes, the vehicle would not slow down until she hit another vehicle while driving approximately 30 mph. The ABS and skid assist lights were both illuminated on the dashboard. There were no injuries and a police report was taken. She also stated that the air bags did not deploy. She had not spoken with the manufacturer or the dealer to-date. The current and failure mileages were approximately 32,000.

2007 Toyota Avalon car accident, snow and icy road conditions car skidded off of the road at a T-intersection ending up impacting with a tree with extensive front end damage and air bag deployment failure. Driver went forward hitting her forehead on the steering wheel and front passenger being jerked around and injuring her neck and back. Both occupants were wearing seat belts. This vehicle is to be brought to the body shop on 12-8-08 and I have notified our Toyota dealer in superior wi on 12-6-08 to have an inspection by a Toyota representative to find a cause for this deployment failure.

My husband was involved in an accident on October 28, 2008. The airbag on the steering wheel deployed as did a knee airbag. Injuries to his lower legs are extensive and I think these injuries were caused by the explosive force of the knee airbag. His left leg sustained a large laceration about 6 inches long by 4 inches wide. And a large area of tissue damage. The laceration could not be sutured and has remained open for more than two weeks. A very large area of tissue has gangrene because of the extent of the injury. His right lower leg was completely ecchymotic after the accident and there is now a localized area of tissue that needs to be debrided. (it looks like a huge blood blister.) extensive debridement of tissue will be done on both legs next week. For the first day following the accident, we had no idea how his lower legs could have sustained such injuries. Shortly after the accident, my husband mentioned that somehow he couldn't step on the brake after feeling the impact of the car that hit him. When I went to view our damaged car I was very surprised to see the air bag that was located at the level of the driver's legs. But it seemed to explain the extensive bilateral lower leg injuries as well as my husband's inability to reach the brake. These injuries have been very debilitating.
