problem #1

May 252008

Avalon Limited 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100 miles

WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW, I NOTICED A ROTTEN EGG SMELL COMING FROM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AFTER FAST ACCELERATIONS ESPECIALLY ON THE INTERSTATES. I CARRIED IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO COMPLAIN BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE SMELL, NATURALLY BECAUSE THEY DON'T TAKE IT ANYWHERE BUT THE PARKING LOT MUCH LESS THE INTERSTATES. SO THEY DID NOTHING AND I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM. NOW I HAVE FOUND A FRIEND THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS 2006 AVALON THAT HAD A SERVICE BULLETIN (RSB 10019686, TSB 00606) ON IT WHICH REPLACED THE FRONT CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND SOLVED THE PROBLEM. I'M TICKED OFF BECAUSE THEY HAD TO KNOW ABOUT THE SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE 2006 MODEL. I'VE COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA ABOUT THE ONGOING PROBLEM BUT I DON'T EXPECT ANY RESOLUTION. I'M WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS OR HAD THIS PROBLEM?
