The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated he was driving with the cruise control set to approximate speeds of 74 mph. He engaged the brakes and the when attempting to reset the cruise control, the vehicle abnormally accelerated to speeds of 95 mph. He was able to deactivate the cruise control and applied the brakes to stop the acceleration. The manufacturer advised the contact to have the dealer inspect the vehicle for the failure. The contact stated before the failure, the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 09V388000 (vehicle speed control: Accelerator pedal). While driving at approximately 15 mph with his foot depressed on the brake pedal, the contact stated that the vehicle suddenly surged forward until repeated pressure was applied to the brakes. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed there was a software problem. The vehicle was repaired and the failure had not recurred at the time of the complaint.
