I also have a paint problem. A friend has the same year (2011) Avalon and told me the paint peeled on the roof. Lo and behold mine did the same thing a month later. Had the roof repainted. There are paint chips around the whole back window which my husband has been touching up. My friend must not have touched his up as he has 4 inch sections on each side of his back window which are bare. I thought I'll just put up with the chipping but then 2 days ago we discovered the paint bubbling on the side of the car towards the rear bumper. A lot of bubbling! I have never seen a car do this and I'm upset about it because it is obviously a manufacturer paint problem and not something we caused. We have very low miles on this car and take very good care of it and now have to decide what to do. It will cost $6000 to get a good paint job done at a reputable facility. I also called Toyota when the roof peeled and was told the same as others, nothing they will do. I love the Avalon but have my doubts now about buying a new one if they will not cover shoddy workmanship.

Just like everyone else, I purchased a beautiful 2011 Toyota Avalon with all the bells and whistles. Great running car I have been proud of driving since I bought it. Now the paint is peeling off like 1980's wallpaper from the roof of my car. My son even said, dad, that looks terrible. I agree son, it does look terrible.

We have owned many Toyota's and I have always wanted a Toyota Tundra, well, I am 100% rethinking that decision.

What a shame that Toyota doesn't live up to this mistake. They know it's a problem and simply choose to ignore it.

I received the same canned speech from Toyota as everyone else. At least it's been logged. I hope more will log the complaint. The more that pitch in, the more it will help. Toyota will simply ignore as long as they possibly can.

Very frustrating.

Last summer I noticed what looked like a gray leaf on my roof just in front of the power roof window. When I tried to remove it, I saw that the paint had started to peel. There was no evidence of a chip in the paint that might have started the peeling. I went to two Toyota dealers and neither admitted having seen a problem like that and told me that it would not be repaired under warranty.

Since then I have seen a Toyota Avalon, just like mine, with the paint peeled off in front of the power roof window, but it was peeled from one side to the other. Today my paint continues to peel and is about 18" wide and extends from the top of the windshield to the power roof window. Also, about a week ago, I noticed the paint starting to peel just above the drivers' side door. In my 50 or so years of buying cars, I have NEVER had the paint peel off for no apparent reason. I think Toyota should re-paint the top of my car at no charge to me.

As shown in the photos the paint started to peel around the gas cap door. Then a bubble appeared on the front of the roof which has not grown to a 10" diameter failure. Next was a bubble by the rear window on the drivers side. Each side of the roof panel by the molding has begun to fail. Each side of the body edge by the trunk lid is failing. Even under the hood near the front windshield has failed. The paint bond with the is failing as attested by two professional automotive painters that have seen this first hand. The car has been and continues to be mechanically sound. Too bad I have to drive around in a car that looks like poop because of a failed manufacturing process.

Update from Dec 13, 2020: Toyota repainted the entire car in 2020. Looks like new on the outside now.
