This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Toyota dealer.
Car still under warranty and clip to hold seat controls on drivers side keeps breaking and was fixed 2 times. Now Cox Toyota says they will not fix again because we are not getting in and out of car correctly. Now I did not see any disclaimer about instructions on getting in and out of car. We have no kids and take care of vehicles. Unacceptable !!!!!!

I open my back door a lot to put my gym bag on the seat. So, I definitely saw this seat back had fallen off within a few days of that happening. I had nothing to do with it. It just fell off.
I went to the dealer on 1/14/2015 to have it repaired. I explained to the person making the reservation that I was coming over to have the driver's seat back reattached as it had fallen off. I explained I had seen on the internet that I was not the only person with a 2013 Toyota Avalon who was experiencing this problem. I said that they could do the 20000 mile maintenance schedule items while it was there, but if they could not repair the seat back I would wait until they ordered the part and had it in stock, etc. I did not want to travel 25 minutes and be without my car for a day and to then have to return to have the seat back put back in place. I was assured that the repair person would be told of the problem I wanted fixed, and if they did not have the part that they would call me.
Well, they called and said it was ready. However, they said they had to order the part to repair the seat back. They said seat backs never fall off and they have never had to order one and that a seat back falling off is very rare. They told me that their dealership had never had to order a seat back. They said they would order the part and call me to schedule the repair.
I asked how long it would be before I got their call. They said probably about two weeks, but since this problem is very rare, it could be a month.
Needless to say I am angry that an interior trim piece fell off in the first place. I am further annoyed that whatever the fix is, it is something I could not do myself. I looked at it and tried to just push it back in place, but nothing worked. It is not obvious at all how it attaches. I am angry that the dealership did not call me to inform me that they could not perform that seat repair on the day I brought it into the shop meaning I had to make two trips instead of one.
I am wondering if this is one of the "planned-engineering flaws" to get you into the dealership for a repair. It seems weird to me that it fell off in the first place without any provocation and weirder that there is not a simple fix.
I have not talked to the dealership as to if this is covered under warranty. My feeling is that it certainly should be and I should not need to pay anything for this repair. I am interested in hearing from anyone else who has had this problem.

These are obviously defects in the Avalon that Toyota has a recall to repair the back of the seat, but still hasn't acknowledged the interior roof problem. With this said, Ira Toyota wants me to rent a car while they decide how to repair my interior roof! They refuse to give me a loaner while they determine what they need to do to repair this defect. Very disappointed with this dealership. Also just found another recall for air conditioner unit leaking which can cause fire. Didn't receive this recall notice either!

It's ridiculous to have to deal with the issue. Toyota has to know it is an issue and should be more proactive in the issue, no one hardly ever rides in my backseat so I know it isn't being tugged on etc. Just annoying to have to waste my time dealing with it.

This is just not typical Toyota level of quality.
And even though the item has been fixed, I had to sign a paper that said the new warranty on these seats would only be good till 2017? What? I have never had to sign anything like that for warranty issues or recall notices.
My Toyota 2004 Corolla only had one small piece on the interior come off in the 10 years I owned it.

This is my 2nd toyota (1st was an 11 Camry XLE) nice car no problems) this Avalon has been a disappointment in the quality of workmanship inside on the interior pieces. I had to take it in this past spring for the leather at the bottom of the front passenger seat was coming apart. We have owned several Hondas with NO ISSUES like we have been experiencing with this 13 Avalon. I purchased this car thinking it was a high quality vehicle that retained some type of value. I was looking at the ES 350 Lexus and decided on the Avalon since it looked a lot better in my opinion. Toyota dealership in Sandusky Ohio has been real good about addressing these issues.

At my one year service I asked the service people to look at my seat back falling off. They said it could not be fixed and would order a part. That did not happen until I complained three weeks later I had not been contacted about a fix. I was told the part was not ordered they would place an order now. I was told the part was back ordered and they could not give a date when it would be available.
I think Toyota will never fix the problem as I have noticed this complaint over and over on many web sites. This problem has caused significant devaluation of the Avalon value. I guess all of us that trusted Toyota to be honest and responsible have been let down. This will be my last Toyota and I recommend if you do not own one don't buy one. The headliner started sagging near the moon roof, so to keep it out of my eyes so I could drive I checked it out myself. I found it was Velcro around the opening, I pushed the Velcro back together as a temporary fix. I am very disappointed in Toyota.

The plastic seat backing is held on the the seat with clips. These clips have failed so the plastic backing is now loose and no longer securely held. This was also observed on one of the test cars I drove. I was told by a Toyota employee that this is a known defect and the clips have been redesigned. I have not taken this into a dealer to fix yet.

On Saturday I unlocked my car and wanted to put a small box on the back seat and noticed that the back of passenger side seat is lose and . open and the drivers side is open. I have no idea how it happened .It is weekend and will go to the Toyota dealer to have it fixed and see what the dealer says.
