In April 2013, I reported to NHTSA (ID number 10542153) what I and my wife considered to be a serious glare/reflection issue, due to the fact that much of the trim area in the dashboard is reflective chrome plastic. On a sunny day, it can really bother your eyes, and is a safety issue. A formal complaint was filed with my local Jacksonville FL Toyota dealer, and after a couple of months, the company line from Toyota Motor Company was that "nothing can be done." When I looked at current 2014 Avalons on dealer lots, they are continuing to use the bright chrome on the dash. About 7 other complaints are on NHTSA's site with the same chrome glare complaint. I have given my input to Toyota Motor company and my Toyota local dealer, that the problem could be solved by replacing the bright chrome with a non-reflective plastic, but it has fallen on deaf ears, they don't consider it to be a problem.
