unexpected acceleration when applying brakes

I was making a left turn into a parking spot at marina market. My foot was on the brake but I could feel the car surging forward and not stopping. I applied harder and even got my left foot to help as my right leg was straining from the pressure. I experience a second surge. Then it suddenly stopped. Meanwhile hit the post on the left and the cart rack on the right with some force. No air bags went off. I had a passenger in the right front seat. He said that my foot was on the brake and not on the gas pedal. Also when both feet were on the brake.

Toyota checked out the car but could not find a problem. HUH.

However the mechanic had to replace the master cylinder w/booster/gasket, brake fluid. $3157.00. No wonder they couldn't find anything wrong.

Now when I drive it I wonder/ it is going to stop.??? I have read of 2 other incidents of the same thing happening with toyota avalons. Hope no one dies.
