The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Avalon hybrid. The contact stated that the center console, where the cup holders were located, would become hot when the heat was activated and cold when the air conditioner was activated. The failure occurred when the vehicle was driven for an extended period of time. The vehicle was taken to several dealers for diagnostic testing, but no failure could be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owned a 2014 Toyota Avalon hybrid. While driving approximately 70 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and smoke appeared from under the hood. The contact noticed that the front of the vehicle caught fire. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 16,000. The VIN was not available. Updated 05/24/16 VIN invalid updated 4/27/18
