About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Automatic gear shift does not always respond to gear shift. For example sometimes when it is placed in the park position, on occasion it has slipped back into neutral command. Thus on occasion it has been placed in park command parked wit the key taken out of the ignition and it has rolled or moved considerably out of its parked placed. This can cause potential damage to the car and other vehicles.

Although I had timely oil and fluid changes and inspections, the technicians reported I had oil sludge on several occasions. Without notice, in Nov, 2002, car suddenly overheated. Symptoms were smoking and leaky radiator. During inspection tech noted: "vehicle has alot of sludge in valve cover/ oil drains slowly & over flows w/filled too fast."

Engine seized with oil stick still showing oil. 1,000 miles later transmission went out. Car still stalled after new transmission. Replaced distributor cap, no luck. Tightened lose ignition wire, no luck. Replace ignition wire connection, finally no problems. Now I no longer have confidence in Toyota products.
