I purchased a 1996 Toyota Camry in late Oct 2011 from a dealer. This car was just traded for a new car, owner info was present, owner was contacted, she reported no problems other than routine work. I paid $2800, but had to immediately fix driver window mechanism. Car began cutting out after immediate stuck acceleration just over year and half later. Before this, it was running well. Now it accelerates, chugs, and dies. Acts like a stuck choke did on the old cars many years ago. Can't get it started after it dies. No ignition spark, plenty of cranking power. So don't want to run down battery, waited half hour, tried it again, it started, with extreme acceleration (like a stuck throttle), high rpm's about 4-5,000 and higher at times, even just sitting in park. Tried other gears while stepping on brake. Tried Neutral. No slamming, just continued acceleration. No changes. Could not get it to kick down into regular idle. Used brake and steered car home, parked in garage, not safe to drive it. This kind of event happened few times previously, each time getting worse, more and more dangerous. I won't drive it like that now. Toyota, you need to address this, recall them, and save lives. I love my Toyotas, so please stand behind your vehicles. Thank you.
