Recently we were hit by a pickup truck while stopped on the interstate. We were stopped due to another accident ahead. Both driver and passenger seats broke at the tilt point and collapsed backward onto the rear seat, narrowly missing our 31 month old child and his car seat. The driver seat did make contact with the car seat, but was deflected due to the strength of the car seat. I find it hard to believe that the seats are designed to collapse. Why did our seats fail?

While driving at any speed front driver's seat would rock back and forth. The dealer stated that there was no warranty, nothing we could do. The seat was repaired but then six weeks later the problem recurred. Toyota suggested that nothing was wrong with the vehicle.
